Scantastic!

I have been suffering a bit with scanxiety of late as I had my six monthly scan and blood tests on the 6 February. Nothing like coming back into reality, as I only landed from my beautiful holiday in South Africa on the 4 February.

I think that good feelings from that holiday, my acupuncture session and healing sessions have all contributed towards keeping me calm and patient awaiting the results - so the scanxiety was not as bad as it has in the past. I alway had hope.

But I heard such welcoming news on Wednesday - the blood test and scan were both good. So no treatments required following these scans - no worries about operations or treatments. What a relief and such a welcome gift. It made me so happy - well happy is an understatement but I can't think of another word to describe this feeling.

At the same time I am keeping this in perspective as this is the first scan that I have had where we have had this news and hopefully it will be the first of many. I will continue to have six monthly scans and blood tests for the foreseeable future. However I must be doing somthing right so I plan to continue with my regime of holistic therapies, supplements, exercise and diet.

Interesting article on the Halting Metastasis of Colon Cancer

Progress on the Halting Metastasis Of Colon Cancer.  A Basque research consortium has managed to halt the progress of colon cancer and its metastasis in the liver in an experimental model with mice. This advance, that may open a new path for the future treatment of such pathologies, has been achieved by creating molecules which interfere with the adhesion of tumour cells to other cells of the organism.

I certainly hope that real progress is made as over 50% of co rectal cancer patients go on to have metastasis in their liver, which is not liver cancer, but where the original cancer cells travel through the blood or lymph systems get caught by the liver and then go on to become a new tumour away from the original site.

Green Tea and Cancer Research UK

I put a search into Google today to see what came up when I searched for "Green tea" and "cancer".  It came up with about 36,700,000 results in (0.26 seconds) - wow! I was surprised!

I didn't read them all of course but I was surprised to see an article on Green Tea on the Cancer Research website. I read that one and was impressed that it gives a real comprehensive insight into the subject of green tea.

But then I was even more surprised to see that they now have a link to Complementary Therapy Organisations - and that Penny Brohn was the first of those organisations. You will know how much that I have benefited from that organisation.

The second search entry was an interesting article from the Daily Telegraph that talks about the possibility of using green tea extracts which they have had success in reducing cancer tumours to produce drugs that could eradicate some cancer tumours

This search on green tea is one that I have not done for a while and just goes to show what new things are happening out there all the time.

Memories were made..... a trip tp South Africa

A holiday in January - what a luxury. A trip we had to cancel last February now rescheduled! A trip to South Africa with Chris & Philip. A safari and a beach house awaited us!

Colin didn't come but he had a holiday with Becky in Virginia Water who looks after him when we are off on our travels.

After Chris Neil & I had a great weekend in Hout Bay we  travelled North to Durban where we met our intrepid traveller Philip who had luckily managed to escape the snows of the UK.

The four of us then went off to a Game Reserve called Phinda for a 4 day safari. A dream come true for lots of different reasons and what a wonderfully perfect time we had. Too many photos to share but here are some of the highlights.

Lions - yes very close!

A 4 week old Cheetah cub - I wanted one as a play mate for Colin!
Thank you for posing Mrs Ch
The highlight for me  - Mr Leopard

View from the infinity pool.

We then flew back to Cape Town where I fulfilled another wish which was to stay at a house overlooking a beach and what a beach we chose - Llandudno. Same name as the one in North Wales but that's where the similarities end!
Llandudno Beach and this was the view from the house!

Seven days of this view and I never tired of it - sleeping to the sound of the ocean. Welcomed each morning when I awoke to the blue sky sunshine and the sound of the waves.
The terrace of my bedroom

The mountain view
And another picture of the view

But I can's stay here forever! A perfect escape and a beautiful holiday. A big thank you to Neil for all his hard work in planning and arranging this holiday  - it could not have been more perfect. Thank you Annie for finding this house for us and to Claire and James whose beauriful house it is for letting us share this piece of paradise for a week. And of course thanks to Chris & Philip for being with us.  We certainly created some wonderful memories.
